| Dherynia borders the occupied Northen Cyprus and there are several viewpoints within the town that give views of Famagusta. The location is residential , and excellent for long term properties.
The village is about 5 miles from the resort of Ayia Napa and a similar distance from the resort of Protaras. It is one the areas where you will have a chance to glimpse the Cypriot way of life. This is one of the areas where you will find locals living rather than just a place to work. The people within the area tend to be very friendly and easy going.
Around the main crossroads you will still find little cafes where the men sit drinking their little cups of Cyprus coffee.Head to Anita's viewpoint where you can look acorss to Varosha (the former tourist district of Famagusta) where there are now decaying hotels. Inside the viewpoint there are reminders of the division of the island. You can look across and see the Turkish flag slightly in the distance and the nearer flags of the Greeks and Cypriots. It is here that two Cypriots were killed in 1996. News cuttings of the events are on display.
At this viewpoint you are given binoculars to use free of charge. They actually have quite a good magnification and you can make out most buildings quite clearly
